A Brief History of the Tavern

The Tavern was built in 1892 by the Schlitz Brewing Co. who owned and operated The Brown Bottle Taverns. The Uhline family who owned Schlitz were the second largest land owners in Cook County next to the Catholic Archdiocese.

After the Sherman Antitrust legislation the company could not manufacture, distribute, and retail their product. They divested the Taverns and Distributors and kept the brewery.

Since 1993 Marquee Lounge has been operating continuously as the Local Neighborhood Tavern.
